art that may just make you shiver

On display at The National Portrait Gallery...have a butchers at this
Self by Marc Quinn (2006)
This is a self-portrait of the artist Marc Quinn, which is made from several pints of his frozen blood and a cast of his face, a ‘frozen moment on lifesupport’ (Quinn), the work is maintained in a refrigeration unit, in order to remind the viewer of the fragility of existence. The Quinn makes a new version of Self every five years, each of which documents Quinn’s own physical transformation and deterioration.
